Banking for Climate: High School Workshop
Climate change is anxiety inducing, especially among young people. We know that small individual actions and incremental change aren’t enough to confront this crisis, but the systemic solutions can seem out of our control. To try to bridge this gap, Banking on a Better Future is launching workshops for Canadian youth to show them they CAN have an impact on the climate crisis on a systemic level. As young people, we have the power to make informed decisions with our money, and our financial decisions can have a real impact on the fossil fuel industry. Join us to learn about the connection between climate change and your banking decisions by hosting a Banking For Climate talk at your school.
We’re excited to offer interactive workshops encouraging students aged 12 to 18 to think critically about personal financial decisions, the finance industry, our economic system, and how they connect to the climate crisis.
We invite you to think of this workshop as a journey. Students will learn the importance of finance when it comes to the climate crisis. We’ll reflect together on the connection between these systems and the power young people have in confronting them. Students will be encouraged to think of innovative actions that they could take to help this issue. We will support students throughout the workshop and beyond to take their knowledge and turn these ideas into action.
Using the form below, students and teachers can register to receive the presentation from BBF team members, or register to give the presentation to their students or peers themselves.
Those who register to give the presentation themselves will receive the slide deck in advance, a script to work off of, and a per-recorded training video going through the content. These registrants will also have the option of meeting with a BBF member to go over any questions they may have before running the workshop.
Please note, that for those who opt for BBF members to present to their class, our ability to do in-person class visits is limited and so this will likely be done through zoom. We will connect with you about this after you sign up via the form below.
We’re offering a few different models for this workshop. Students can opt for one, two, or three part workshops, depending on preference. We can provide materials and support to a student to host their own workshop, or we can provide a facilitator to run the workshop. Sign up here!
