Annual General Meeting Action Toolkit

Once a year, organizations have a meeting for their general members. Corporations like Banks, Insurers, and Asset Managers inform shareholders on performance and projects, and shareholders vote on resolutions and elect board members.

On April 7th 2022, RBC will hold its annual general meeting. This year, many banks across Turtle Island will be presented with a resolution to end financing on fossil fuel expansion. RBC was presented with such a resolution, but rejected it on the technicality that it was a few words over the word count. Instead of agreeing to let the resolution be amended, RBC decided that it would rather stonewall a conversation around their role in bank rolling the fossil fuel industry and propelling the climate crisis forward.

Thus, we are bringing the resolution back to RBC on the 7th of April, to let them know customers across Canada demand they stop funding the rapidly escalating climate crisis. Through our organizing, we hope to build a clear public narrative that RBC does not have our best interest in mind: instead they are prioritizing profit over people and planet.
